I knew the author superficially in a strictly professional, junior pediatrician to senior pediatrician sort of way. What a marvelous surprise his memoir is! One never knows the fascinating background that most people have and keep hidden away; and what a background ! Instead of telling about his life as a pediatrician, Dr. Vigliani takes us back over a hundred years to explore his roots, with charm and perception. His wartime memories are some of the most poignant that I have ever read.This book would entertain and inform those interested in Italian history and culture, coming of age observations from a time very different ours, and Partisan WW II adventures. I highly recommend this memoir.
